About_Debs

Hello!

I’ve been writing comedy seriously (as it were) for several years and have trained with some fantastic script editors to develop my craft to a professional level.

Please get in touch with me if you would like to discuss any of the below writing projects or if you’d be interested in working with me on a new project.

Audio

It will come as no surprise that my most recent projects have been geared towards audio, both radio and podcast, to compliment my voice work – it’s a medium that I’m having a lot of fun working with.

Radio Sitcom

Cunning Plans – the year is 1086 and two cunning women are merrily using witchcraft to con unsuspecting travellers in rural North Devon.

Caught Betwixt – a workaholic project manager is ripped away from her neatly structured existence as her micro-management skills are the only thing that can end a magical war in the Fae Realms.

Performed (rehearsed reading) at Blackwell’s Bookshop, Oxford, 25th April 2019.

Podcast

Vamps – Glizelda, Mariana, Ophelia, and Jean have been stuck in a castle together for a long time. A very, VERY long time…

Search for “Vamps” wherever you like to pod, or see all the listening options here.

Vamps

Sketches

I’ve written a lot of audio sketches over the years, you can listen to some examples below which were recorded in November 2019.

Mythical Meeting

Hand Holding

Cast: Victoria Ashford, Ben Sohawon, Tim Southgate, Debs Wardle, Charlotte Warner. Recorded by: Sam Enthoven.

TV Sitcom

As an unashamed telly addict, I absolutely love crafting scripts for TV.

Domesday – set in 1086 as four men travel across Devon gathering information for the Domesday Survey whilst trying not to fall foul of any local witches, ghosts, or pixies.
Performed (rehearsed reading) at Baron’s Court Theatre, 2nd December 2018.
Extract selected and workshopped at 2018 London Screenwriter’s Festival Actors Table Read.

Henge – four young people are trying to get to grips with adulthood during the Neolithic answer to Bestival.

Erf – a mild mannered ice-cream man unexpectedly finds himself on a space station in orbit around Earth several millennia in the future.
Extract selected and workshopped at 2017 London Screenwriter’s Festival Actors Table Read.

Life After Uni – three recent graduates are getting used to a confusing world where weekday hangovers are frowned upon and people get pregnant on purpose.

Theatre

Theatre is where I started out so writing plays always feels like coming home. I love breaking the fourth wall in my stage scripts as there is so much scope for mischief when working in a live medium…

Plays

Vamps – problems start to arise for four female vampires when several boxes of letters come to light and it’s revealed that one of their former lovers is less deceased than he ought to be.

Extract performed (Rehearsed Reading) at Page to Stage London, 22nd November 2017.

Longlisted for the Bread & Roses Playwriting Award 2018/2019.

Rooms – a singer and her PA find themselves trapped in a grotty hotel while a storm rages outside. If that weren’t bad enough, they inadvertently get on the wrong side of the two inept spies in the room next door.

Performed (Rehearsed Reading) at Barons Court Theatre, 25th August 2018.

Sketches

The below were written as part of the 28 Plays Later challenge and recorded live at Baron’s Court Theatre, 2nd June 2018.
