Debs Wardle - Comedy Writer

Hello! I’m Debs and I’m a comedy writer

I’ve been writing comedy seriously (as it were) for years and trained with some fantastic script editors to develop my craft.

Having grown up in North Devon where superstition and magic abound, I have a fascination with all things folklore which often seeps into my writing. I also love a bit of sci-fi (I’m a massively geeky Whovian).

I’ve written various projects for TV, radio, and stage – if you’d like more info, you can download my CV here. If you would like to discuss any of my existing work or if you’d be interested in collaborating with me on a new project, please get in touch.

Vamps Podcast

I’m probably best known for my podcast Vamps, which ran for four series between 2018 and 2023.

It follows the story of Glizelda, Mariana, Ophelia, and Jean – four vampires who’ve been trapped together in Glizelda’s beloved Garsley Castle for far too long.

It’s available on iTunes, Spotify, and in all the other usual podcast places; or you can click on the image (left) to listen from Vamps’ dedicated page and find out more about how it came to be.

On Another Wavelength…

…the anthology audio series from Evcol Entertainment & Clockwork Digital Studios, produced by award-winning writers/producers Simon James Collier & Adam Dechanel.

I have contributed three scripts to the anthology: Death’s Door, Window of Opportunity, and A Doug-mas Carol.

You can listen to a sample of each to the right of this text, or click on the buttons below which will take you to Evol’s website where you can purchase, download, keep, and cherish each one!

Wavelength Samples

Death’s Door – You’re in the afterlife, the celestial administrator’s a nightmare, the IT system’s down, and you’re absolutely, 100% NOT dead.

Window of Opportunity – You carefully select your victim, fly in through her window, and tower terrifyingly over her; but infuriatingly she doesn’t quite seem to grasp the gravity of the situation.

A Doug-mas Carol – You embark on a lengthy train journey planning to kick back with some podcasts but instead are subjected to a visitation by your three most irksome exes.

Cast Your Mind Back To 2019…

The news goes out of date very quickly – and it’s fair to say that this has been especially true in the past few years. These sketches were written back in early 2019, in those heady days before we knew of social distancing, virtually nobody owned a mask, and Sandi Toksvig still presented Bake Off.

I have many more of these recorded waiting to be edited and shared, so this is just a (very!) small selected and it will be added to as and when I have time to put more together. The sketch I wrote on the pre-Megxit Monarchy really makes for interesting listening so keep an eye out for that one…

Voice Reel Scripts

Reading lots of voice reel scripts, but struggling to find anything that showcases your best voices?

As a voice artist myself, I understand the importance of setting the scene to showcase your abilities. And as a writer, I know the foundation of any good scene is the script.

I would love to produce some tailor made voice reel scripts written specifically for you and the voices you do best.

Corporate, Commercial, E-Learning (£125)

Think about what markets you think your voice is most suited to, or what area of the business you’d like to target with your reels. For example, if you’ve always had a passion for cars, then we can make sure to include something auto related to appeal to that industry.

I will write you one script comprised of several ‘spots’ – a range of short adverts, various explainer clips, etc. I will give you slightly more material than you need (your reels should be around a minute in length) so you it can be edited down as needed.

I can generally get these written within a week.

Character, Gaming, Animation (£250)

Have 4 – 8 voices in mind for your reel. You want to use this reel to showcase your range, so make sure that the voices are as different as possible in terms of pitch, accent, etc; but make sure you pick ones that you can just flawlessly break into.

I will write you three scripts. One will be stand-alone speeches for each of your characters, the other two will be short scenes in which your characters talk to each other. Some casting folk prefer stand alone speeches, some prefer scenes – this way you have both.

I usually turn these around in about a fornight.

How This Works

  • Book a chat with me so you can tell me precisely what you want to showcase. I do this on a call rather than via email so that I can get a sense of you and your voice.
  • I will then write you your script(s) and send them to you! I write them in word rather than using fancy script software so that you can open them to make any minor adjustments, add notes, or even change the font if you find certain fonts easier to read.
  • If there’s anything you’d like me to change, I will do you a second draft free of charge.

Copy Writing, Copy Editing, and Proof Reading

There’s a common misconception that if you’re creative in one area, you must have a natural aptitude for all artforms. This is very definitely not the case (you should see me try to draw, it’s hilarious).

Just because you’re a tallented voice artist/painter/whatever, it doesn’t necessarily mean that writing or editing the copy for your website is going to be a breeze.

This is where I come in. There’s nothing I love doing more than helping my fellow creatives make their content sparkle. If you have some copy you could use a hand with, hit the button below to get in touch and let me know what you need!
